Reuse the Video, Then Review the Reel and the Short Separately

You've finished a product demo that works. Posting it as both a Reel and a Short is the obvious next move, and usually the right one. There's no point filming the same thing twice.
It goes wrong when you treat the second upload as a copy. The demo can stay the same. But the title, the music, where the captions sit against each app's buttons, and where you send the viewer next all need a separate check.
Keep the demo, change the opening
The product demonstration should stay accurate wherever it appears. You can change the opening line and caption to help each audience get into the video.
Don't change the product claim just to make a more dramatic version for another feed. A version made for another channel shouldn't quietly turn into a different offer.
YouTube's Shorts documentation explains what counts as a Short and which conditions apply. Buffer's Shorts guidance covers a separate question: what the publishing tool supports. Check both the platform and the tool you actually use.
Inspect the version people will see
A caption that's easy to read in one app can end up under the buttons in another. Music you're allowed to use inside one app may come with different rules elsewhere.
Review the actual post preview for each destination. If you change the soundtrack, listen again to make sure the narration is still clear. If you move the text, check that it doesn't hide what the product is doing.
Treat each changed upload as its own version, even if the footage underneath is the same.
Be careful with platform averages
Metricool's 2026 short-form report draws on a large sample and shows differences by account size. That's a reason to look at your own situation, not to assume one platform wins for every small business.
Your customers, offer, and existing audience matter. So does what each metric you're comparing actually measures.
A higher view count on one platform doesn't automatically mean the same people are more interested in your business there.
Check that each post went out before judging the results
Make sure each post used the right file, title, and account. If a post is missing or restricted, that doesn't show weak interest in the topic.
Keep the original video together with a note of what you changed for each channel. That gives you something useful to compare when you look at the results later.
Mirr's short-form automation workflow can organize production, while Reels and Shorts are still separate places to publish.
None of this means remaking every video. It means tracking what you reused and what you changed. Then, when the Reel and the Short perform differently, you can look into why without guessing which version each channel got.
